Key messages from the event
The 1st Asian Wetland Symposium was held in Otsu and Kushiro, Japan from 15th to 20th October 1992. It gathered 300 participants including 60 participants from 24 countries outside Japan. It was the first conference in Asia to discuss widely about the wise use of wetlands and international cooperation among government officers in charge of wetland management and of development assistance, members of environmental NGOs and university scholars.
